Microsoft states it’s paying $7.5 billion in stock for the popular coder hangout GitHub.

GitHub is a platform where software application designers can go to host and review each other’s code.

The San Francisco startup was founded in 2008 and has actually grown greatly because announcing its first outside financial investment in 2012. It now counts about 27 million software developers worldwide who utilize its platform to share code and build companies.

It’s complimentary to use GitHub for open-source tasks, but some designers and services pay a month-to-month charge to access private code repositories and other services.
