United States sanctions on Russia will target exports of national security-related items consisting of sectors such as specialized oil and gas innovation and some electronic devices and sensors, a senior United States State Department authorities stated on Thursday.
The United States State Department said on Wednesday it would enforce fresh sanctions by the month’s end after identifying that Moscow had actually used a nerve representative against a former Russian mole, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter, Yulia, in Britain, something Moscow denies.
” In practice this will mean we are enforcing a ‘anticipation of denial’ upon export licences for US origin national security-sensitive products and technology to any Russian state-owned or state-funded business,” the official said in a teleconference with reporters.
” The categories covered by this might include things such as electronic, computer systems, sensors and lasers, telecommunications, specialised oil and gas production equipment and details and security innovations, simply among others.”
The Russian rouble and shares in Russia’s greatest airline company Aeroflot was up to two-year lows on Thursday, extending losses after the sanctions announcement.
Asked whether sanctions would apply directly to Aeroflot and whether they could limit flights by the business, the authorities said:
” To the degree that Aeroflot is a Russian state-owned or state-funded business, and to the degree that anyone makes an application for an export licence to provide products that are managed under that system to Aeroflot, then I expect these would fall under the presumption of denial.”
” None of this would be directly versus Aeroflot. This would be with regard to whether we authorize an export licence of technology that might be utilized by or provided to Aeroflot.”
